The aim of the Public Health/Housing service is to remedy adverse conditions that present safety and health risks or which may damage amenity within the District.
Public Health Nuisance
Nuisance conditions may arise from defective premises as a result of complaints regarding dust, odour and fumes. The Environmental Health Department investigates all public health complaints and takes appropriate follow up action. Statutory nuisance conditions which may arise may be dealt with through informal action or service of public health notices.
Housing
The Environmental Health Department has a responsibility to provide professional and technical support to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. The principle areas of work include fitness assessment of dwellings and the suitability for human habitation. To request this service, please complete the following application form. Occupiers of private rented accommodation who have regulated tenancy under the Rent Order (1978) may be able to initiate repairs to property by their landlords. Tenants who consider they have been subject to harassment and eviction by landlords may contact the Department to have the matter investigated and addressed.
