A stunning collection of sculptures created by local and international artists who have taken their inspiration from the famous Banbridge-born sculptor, Frederick Edward McWilliam, are currently featuring in a new exhibition in the sculpture garden of the F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio, Banbridge.
McWilliam is renowned for combining craftsmanship and technical experimentation with humour and inventiveness. Many pieces in this exhibition have adopted the same approach as McWilliam. It’s interesting to see how well the permanent examples of F.E. McWilliam’s work sit with these more recent sculptural creations in the garden. Together with the gallery's indoor exhibition, ‘Material Worlds’, both exhibitions offer the visitor an opportunity to view a stimulating range of current sculptural trends.
All eighteen works featuring in the exhibition have been specially selected by the Sculptors’ Association of Mourne, which is made up of six artists who are based in or have a personal connection with the Mourne area.
The artists whose work appears in the exhibition include Alan Cargo, Alan Burke, Jason Mulligan, Eleanor Wheeler, Kevin Killen and Trudy Cunningham Burke –
all of whom have a link or close connection to
County
Down. Among the international guests artists are Michael Warrick (USA), Wolfgang Buttress (England), Alyosha Moeran (Japan), Helen Hanse (Ireland) and Denis O'Connor (England). |
